The Global Health Equity Forum (GHEF), in collaboration with the Health Services Academy (HSA), has launched the first-ever one-year Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). The program was officially launched on December 7, 2024.

This PGD will be accredited by the Higher Education Commission and is designed by a team of distinguished national and international experts, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all latest key areas. The program consists of 18 credit hours and is divided into six modules. Two-thirds of the curriculum is focused on theoretical learning, while the remaining one-third emphasizes practical training, including hands-on experience at a recognized hospital and a research project.

The teaching faculty boasts a strong reputation both within Pakistan and internationally. The response to the program has been overwhelming, with applicants from diverse sectors, including the Aga Khan Health Program GB, Indus Hospital, Armed Forces, Bacha Khan Medical Complex Sawabi, as well as numerous private and public hospitals and healthcare establishments. To maintain high standards, only 25 students were selected for the first batch.

Due to the program’s exceptional quality, students have expressed interest in a similar Master’s program in IPC and AMR, following the same rigorous standards.

To support graduates in implementing comprehensive IPC programs at their respective healthcare facilities, GHEF and HSA have established an IPC-AMR Working Group. This group will collaborate with federal and provincial governments, as well as organizations such as SIFC, NUST, WHO, Jhpiego, UNICEF, IOM, Global Fund, and other relevant entities to build technical partnerships.

Notably, Dr. Hasan Orooj, the Course Director of this PGD, also serves as the Agency Supervisor for the MPH program at Baylor University, USA. As a result, the latest advancements in teaching methods and techniques are integrated into the training sessions.

This innovative program not only focuses on academic learning but also emphasizes the practical application of knowledge, ensuring a comprehensive and impactful educational experience. Working Group will assist the participants of the diploma course for implementation of the program at their respective hospitals clinics for 1-2 years after their graduation.
